The Vicarage is perfectly placed for the road and rail network. This means you can easily stop by and explore our local area for a few days if you’re doing a road trip around the North (or on two wheels for that matter, this is the UK’s cycling mecca!). It’s just 5 miles to the beautiful spa town of Harrogate, while the cathedral city of Ripon lies 8 miles to the north.

Our address is The Vicarage, Town Street, Nidd, North Yorkshire HG3 3BL,

or for the technically-minded 54.04273461649004, -1.5422487258911135

It’s a tiny postcode of just three houses, but unfortunately you won’t find anything to tell you that you’re on Town Street. Road signs are in short supply around here in the unspoilt countryside.  Look out for The Vicarage sign and logo on the planter at the entrance.

If you’re going to rely on your SatNav, here’s a heads up. Some are determined to send you to Nidd Hall Hotel. Be defiant! You will be tantalisingly close, but it will never work! If this fate befalls you, head back to the hotel’s main road entrance, turn left then take the first left onto Town Street. There’s no street sign, just look for the red post box on your left once you have turned. Keep going for 3/4 mile and you’ll see The Vicarage sign on the planter on your right.

We are off the A61 Harrogate to Ripon Road. From the South, head from Harrogate towards Ripon. After the second Ripley roundabout continue towards Ripon and after 1/3 mile turn right onto Nidd Lane, just before a bus stop sign. If you miss it, take the next right which is Green Lane.

From the North, take the Ripon bypass and head for Harrogate.  After 3 miles there’s a short overtaking lane. Keep your eyes peeled for The Malt Shovel Inn sign and turn left.

Whether you are on Nidd Lane or Green Lane you will come to a T-junction. Turn right.  You’ll see The Vicarage sign on the planter on your left after a few hundred yards.

From Knaresborough go down the hill which is the main street and turn left at the mini roundabout. 50 yards later turn right at the next mini roundabout. Drive out of the town up the hill. After 2.3 miles you’ll see a sign for The Malt Shovel Inn and Brearton. Follow this road (but do not go into Brearton) for 2.5 miles and you’ll see The Vicarage sign on the planter on your left.

Turn into the gravelled yard and look for your designated parking spot – OAK, ASH or YEW.

Both Harrogate and Knaresborough have railway stations connecting to the wider network. The stunning city of York is just 18 miles away and is on the east coast main line service from Edinburgh to London  (with a travel time of 2 hours).  From December 2019 there will be 6 trains daily direct from Harorogate to Kings Cross.

Numerous Harrogate-based taxi firms serve the area.  The drive from Harrogate train station to The Vicarage currently costs £15.

The 36 bus runs numerous times each hour between Ripon, Harrogate and Leeds and offers wifi and USB power. The  stop closest to our B&B is one mile away – an easy walk along a quiet road.

Our closest airport is Leeds Bradford (16 miles) or Manchester (56 miles) plus a number of regional airports in the wider area.

We’re conveniently located for ever-popular event and wedding venues of Ripley Castle and the Hôtel de Ville in the village as well as Grantley Hall, 8 miles away. Perfect if you’re here for a special occasion and, of course, we can arrange transport for you.

Our B&B is also easy to access if you’re in Harrogate for a conference or trade show and we’ve made sure our B&B is suitable for business travellers (see our FAQs).
